DLSS and frame generation FPS estimator
See what upscaling and frame generation do for your graphics card. Compare every DLSS, FSR or XeSS mode with 2x, 3x and 4x frame generation in one grid, and find the best picture quality that still hits your target frame rate.
How upscaling and frame generation are estimated
For each upscaling mode the tool lowers the internal render resolution, which cuts the work for your graphics card, and applies a typical speed-up for that mode. It then caps the result with what your processor can feed, because a CPU limit stops stronger upscaling from helping. Frame generation multiplies the rendered frame rate by a typical factor for 2x, 3x or 4x, and flags any cell where the rendered frame rate falls under 40 FPS.
What each mode renders
| Mode | Render scale | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Quality | About 67% per axis | The sharpest picture with a solid boost. |
| Balanced | About 58% per axis | A middle ground at 1440p and 4K. |
| Performance | 50% per axis | Big gains, especially at 4K and with ray tracing. |
| Ultra Performance | About 33% per axis | Extreme cases such as path tracing at 4K. |

Frequently asked questions
How much FPS does DLSS add?
DLSS Quality typically adds around 40 to 60 percent more frames, Balanced a little more and Performance roughly double, depending on the game, resolution and how GPU-limited you are. Gains shrink when your CPU is the limit. The estimator shows each mode for your exact graphics card and settings.
What is the difference between upscaling and frame generation?
Upscaling renders the game at a lower resolution and rebuilds it to your screen size, which genuinely speeds up each frame. Frame generation inserts extra AI-made frames between rendered ones, so the counter rises and motion looks smoother, but responsiveness stays tied to the rendered frames.
Is 4x Multi Frame Generation worth using?
It works best when your base frame rate is already 40 to 60 FPS and you own a high-refresh monitor. It can turn a smooth 60 into well over 200 displayed frames. In fast competitive games, or from a low base, the extra latency and artefacts make it less appealing.
Which DLSS mode should I use?
Start with Quality at 1440p and 4K for the best picture. Move to Balanced or Performance only if you need more frames, and at 4K Performance often still looks good. At 1080p, lower modes soften the image more, so Quality is usually the safest choice.
Do AMD and Intel graphics cards have equivalents?
Yes. AMD offers FSR for upscaling and frame generation, and Intel offers XeSS. Modes and render scales are similar, but image quality and game support differ. The estimator uses the right name for your card and shows the frame generation options that apply to it.
