RTX 50 laptop GPU TGP estimator
Choose a laptop GPU and its power limit. See the performance you give up at lower wattage, the FPS in your game and the desktop card it matches.
How laptop power changes performance
Each laptop GPU has a range of power limits that makers can choose. The estimator takes the performance at the top of that range and scales it down for lower TGP using a typical curve where the last few watts add little. It then converts the result to frame rates in your game and finds the closest desktop RTX 50 card.
Typical TGP ranges
| Laptop GPU | Common TGP range |
|---|---|
| RTX 5090 Laptop | 95 to 150 W |
| RTX 5080 Laptop | 80 to 150 W |
| RTX 5070 Ti Laptop | 60 to 140 W |
| RTX 5070 Laptop | 50 to 115 W |
| RTX 5060 Laptop | 50 to 100 W |
| RTX 5050 Laptop | 35 to 100 W |
Ranges are launch figures and may differ by maker. Compare with desktop cards in the GPU comparison tool and see our RTX 50 laptop guides.
Frequently asked questions
What is TGP on a laptop graphics card?
TGP is total graphics power, the wattage the laptop maker allows the GPU to use. The same chip, such as the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, can be set to very different limits. A higher TGP usually means higher clocks and more FPS, but also more heat and fan noise.
Does a higher TGP always mean much faster performance?
No. Gains shrink as power rises, so going from 60 to 90 watts adds far more than going from 120 to 150. Cooling also matters, because a thin laptop may not sustain its top TGP. The estimator shows the diminishing returns for each GPU.
Why do two laptops with the same GPU perform differently?
Makers choose different TGP limits, cooling designs and memory configurations, and they may cap performance for noise or battery life. Always check the TGP of the exact model, not just the GPU name, before buying a gaming laptop.
How accurate is the laptop estimate?
It is a modelled estimate. We scale performance with power using a typical curve and compare it with desktop cards. Real results depend on cooling, drivers and the game. Treat it as a guide for comparing laptops, and read independent reviews of the exact model.
